Prayer, Charity, Shopping, Joy Mark Christmas Eve

Hyderabad: On the eve of Christmas, Hyderabad was abuzz with a mix of festive cheer, faith, generosity and merriment. Churches across the city are finalizing plans for their special services, while bustling markets and charity drives ensure the joy of the season reaches everyone.

Among the churches gearing up for the grand celebration, Hope UC Church came out with Christmas Eve services on Tuesday at 6.30pm and 8.30pm with the band singing top favorite carols.

Known for its vibrant community and uplifting atmosphere, the church plans an evening of soulful music, prayer and messages of hope. Soaking in the true spirit of the season, families and individuals from across the city attend the service. “Christmas is about love and giving,” said a member of the church choir, who has been practicing carols for weeks to make the services memorable.

Other churches such as St. Joseph’s Cathedral and St. Mary’s Basilica are also preparing for midnight mass and morning services. These iconic churches, decorated with twinkling lights and nativity scenes, are ready to welcome thousands of worshippers.

The city’s markets are a sight to behold as residents engage in last-minute Christmas shopping.

From the crowded lanes of Abids to the glittering malls of Banjara Hills, people are in a frenzy to pick up festival essentials. Fairy lights, stars, and Christmas trees are flying off the shelves, while bakeries are filled with customers ordering plum cakes and cookies. Demand for decorative items including garlands, bells and nativity sets is increasing at local shops in Mojamjahi Bazaar. “It’s chaotic but so much fun,” said one shopper, balancing a stack of wrapped gifts.

Malls like GVK One and Inorbit have launched huge holiday sales offering discounts on everything from winter wear to home decor. For food lovers, stalls selling roasted nuts, hot chocolate and spicy plum cakes have become the center of attraction to liven up the flavor of the festival.

This Christmas, Hyderabad’s community spirit is brighter than ever. A group of 15 cyclists recently visited an orphanage in Secunderabad to celebrate with more than 60 children. They distributed cakes, pencils and small gifts, bringing smiles to the faces of the youngsters. One participant shared, โ€œSometimes we throw money away without realizing how a small gesture can brighten someone’s world. This experience reminds us to be grateful for what we have.โ€

Charity is not limited to human connections during this season. Many of them organized a unique event by donating bags of rice, clothes and pet supplies to dog shelters in Bachupally and Borampet. Volunteers also got ready to visit Jeeva Watsalya Dog Shelter and Breathe Dog Shelter on Christmas Day, spreading joy to their furry friends.

Homes across the city twinkle with twinkling lights, while the aroma of freshly baked treats fills the air. Families are busy preparing Christmas feasts, with dishes ranging from biryani to traditional roasts and puddings. Communities are organizing carol nights and street plays, bringing neighbors together in celebration.

As Hyderabad embraces the festive spirit, there is something for everyone this Christmas. Whether it’s attending a meaningful church service, engaging in holiday shopping, or giving back to the community, the magic of the season is truly in the air.
