Ease of life depends on how easily people can access government services, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said while unveiling the Good Governance Index report released in Mumbai on Thursday (December 26, 2024). Releasing the report, Mr. Fadnavis said his government was always working to improve the ‘ease of life’ in the state.

The report mentions five districts from each region: Amravati, Washim, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Latur and Parbhani agriculture and related areas; Mumbai city, Raigad, Pune, Palghar and Thane for commerce and industry; Nashik, Gondia, Pune, Yavatmal and Satara for human resource development; Sindhudurg, Mumbai suburbs, Palghar, Beed and Ratnagiri for public health; Latur, Nashik, Buldhana, Chandrapur and Hingoli for infrastructure; Gondia, Amravati, Nashik, Dhule and Nagpur for social development; Mumbai suburbs, Mumbai city, Raigad, Jalgaon and Bhandara for economic governance; Mumbai suburbs, Mumbai city, Nagpur, Gadchiroli and Raigad for justice and security; Sangli, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Solapur, Mumbai suburbs for Mumbai city and environment; Nashik, Washim, Yavatmal, Buldhana and Amravati for people centric administration.

โ€œGood governance shows whether the citizens of the state have access to government services without delay or not. A trillion dollar economy can be strengthened through good governance. As per the criteria of various sectors and with the support of the Central Government, the District Governance Index has shown a positive opportunity to achieve good governance,” Mr. Fadnavis said.

He reviewed the upcoming 100-day plan and directed all the departments to carry out solid performance through the 100-day plan, including plans based on public awareness technology that would benefit the citizens.

Instructing the forest department to take initiatives using artificial intelligence and information technology to reduce human-wildlife conflict, he said that a rapid rescue team should be formed to solve the problem quickly. โ€œKeeping in mind the increasing number of leopards, arrangements should be made to take them to sanctuaries in other states as per the need. The capacity of leopard habitat should be increased.โ€

The Forest Department has also been asked to come up with a policy to establish a carbon credit company. The Miyawaki tree planting method has been suggested for use in cities to increase afforestation in urban areas.

In the report, the Department of Agriculture has mentioned that the plan should be implemented to put farmers at the center of their plans. The report states that the Department of Higher and Technical Education should attract foreign universities to the country and build educational complexes.

“In the past, the government emphasized people-centric administration and established a platform called ‘Aaple Sarkar’ to address citizens’ grievances. The District Governance Index is based on 161 criteria, with more than 300 data points in about 10 development areas, whose performance is low in terms of quality. 6, they should improve their performance and progress index,โ€ Mr. Fadnavis said while congratulating the district administrators. Which has performed well in the index.
