Amorim has had a rollercoaster ride since succeeding the sacked Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.
United enjoyed a late comeback win over local rivals Manchester City and were then beaten 4-3 by Tottenham in the League Cup quarter-finals before losing 3-0 to Bournemouth last weekend.
With Rashford ruled out of all three of those games, the 27-year-old, a product of United’s youth system, now looks increasingly likely to leave Old Trafford.
The struggling England international speculated about his future in a midweek interview, saying he was “ready for a new challenge”.
But Amorim, speaking to Wolves ahead of the Boxing Day match, said his approach had not changed.
“Normal conditions,” he said. “When I think it’s the right time I’ll make some changes. Until then I’ll keep thinking about what’s best for the team.
“I talk to him (Rashford) every day. Not about the interview, about the performance.”
Amorim added that Rashford “wants to play, he’s trying” but “it’s my decision, only my decision”.
“I talked to a lot of players — personally, during training — so I’m trying to do things… I’m doing things my way,” the Portuguese coach said. “And it’s the only way I know how.
“If I don’t do that I’ll lose myself and I won’t lose myself. I know what I’m doing.”
Amorim questioned the “choice” of those around Rashford following his exit from the Bournemouth game, with Gary Neville saying the forward’s departure felt like an “inevitable end”.
The former United captain also called it a “distraction for the manager” – something Amorim denied on Tuesday.
“No, I don’t think so,” he said. “Not for me, not for the other players because everyone is there during training, so they understand and that’s the main thing.
“For the media and other people, I can’t control it.
“But I’m really focused and they know, I’m clear in my message, everyone at Carrington knows what I’m talking about and what I want from Marcus and everyone else.
“So, it’s not a distraction for us. Maybe it is for the media but it’s not my concern.”
‘responsibility’
====================
Asked what he would like to see more of from Rashford, Amorim replied: “Like any other player, they can be the best.
“If you have big talent, big performance, big responsibility, big involvement, like step it all up in the moment. And some guys have a big responsibility here because they’ve been here a long time.”
United are 13th in the table ahead of Thursday’s game against a team managed by Amorim’s compatriot Vitor Pereira, who lead their first game at Molineux fresh from a 3-0 win at Leicester at Wolves.
“I understand that this is a difficult moment, and it is on me,” said Amorim.
“From the first day I arrived, it’s on me because I’m responsible for the team…We just have to think about improving, understanding the context and not focusing on what happened in the past.”
