GHMC staff won gold in grappling and silver in judo

Hyderabad: Ambika Rani, a GHMC employee and mother of three, won two national-level medals, a gold in grappling (wrestling) and a silver in judo. The national grappling (wrestling) tournament was held in November.

She has been selected for international competitions for these subjects and will train at the National Institute of Sports (NIS) in Patiala. He is a judo coach at NIS with his father T. She trains with Harinath.

Ambika Rani got the GHMC job eight months ago as a compassionate appointment to replace her late husband. Previously working in the engineering branch, he was assigned to the sports branch on Monday.

She said she was motivated by her commitment to win medals for the state and the country. “If there is a desire to achieve something, it is possible. Juggling between work, practice and taking care of my son is not easy. But my commitment made it possible,” Ambika Rani told Deccan Chronicle.

She said that she wakes up at 4 am and swims for an hour and then practices until 7 am. She hones her techniques for another hour before reporting for work.

“When I am at work, my mother takes care of my son T. Ankit. After returning from office, I take care of him. There is another two hours of practice in the evening,” said Ambika Rani.
