The Madhya Pradesh High Court has directed a civic authority in Mandsaur to issue a No Objection Certificate (NOC) sought by a man for opening a buffalo slaughterhouse, terming its objection to denial of permission as “completely unacceptable”.
The argument of the local body was that Mandsaur was a religious town and rejected the butcher’s NOC application saying that permission for the slaughter house could not be granted. “The reason given that Mandsaur is a religious town… permission cannot be granted… is totally unacceptable,” said Justice Pranay Verma of the Indore Bench of the High Court on December 17.
In a notification issued on December 9, 2011, the state government had declared a 100 meter radius of the Pashupatinath temple of Lord Shiva in Mandsaur as a “sacred area”.
In his petition before the CMO, Mandsaur resident Sabir Hussain, who was a butcher by profession, said that the place where he wants to open the slaughterhouse is far from “sacred territory”.
The court, looking at the facts, said that the state government had declared a place within 100 meters radius of Mandsaur as a “sacred area”, therefore the entire city could not be considered a “sacred area”.
