Crime Branch widens probe into PMJAY case linked to Ahmedabad Hospital | Ahmedabad news

Ahmedabad City Police Crime Branch (DCB) on Thursday said bariatric surgeon and director of Ahmedabad Bariatrics & Cosmetics Pvt Ltd, holding company of Khyati Multispeciality Hospital, Dr Sanjay Mulji Patolia has been remanded for seven days.

The crime branch also indicated that they are widening the scope of their probe into hospital accounts, which are at the center of a fraud case linked to the PMJAY (Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana) scheme.

A total of nine accused have been registered in three FIRs for culpable homicide not other than murder in a fraud case after two PMJAY beneficiaries died after allegedly undergoing angioplasty without their informed consent. Meanwhile, the anticipatory bail of Rajshri Pradeep Kothari, another director of the hospital, was also canceled by the court on Thursday. Kothari is one of the two accused who are absconding from the police along with the hospital chairman Karthik Jasu Patel. Seven others have been arrested so far.

The crime branch said that between September 1, 2021 and October 28, 2024, the hospital had treated 8,534 patients out of which 3,842 were treated under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana – Mukhyamantri Amrutam (PMJAY-MA) scheme.

A total of 112 patients died in the hospital during this period.
