The state medical body suspended the registration of Surat doctors for six months Ahmedabad news

The Gujarat Medical Council (GMC) has suspended the medical registration of a Surat doctor for six months following an investigation into allegations that he misrepresented his degree, according to an official order issued on Thursday. Based on the complaint of the patient’s family, an investigation has been started. The doctor has been identified as Dr. Mahesh T. Nadia of Maruti Multispeciality Hospital in Surat.

On November 12, in its order based on the recommendation of its executive committee, the GMC said that even though Dr Mahesh Navadia “had only an MBBS degree in modern medicine and not an MD, he still claimed to have a master’s degree”. It also came to light that Dr Navadia had a Master’s Diploma in Alternative Medicine (Acupressure, Magnetism, Sujok, Pyramid, Color Crystal, Yoga and Reiki Therapy), “which is not a recognized medical qualification under the Indian Medical Council Act 1956, and he was given emergency and does not qualify as an ICU specialist.”

It is said in the order that Dr. Navadia “misled the police into believing that he had a valid post-graduate degree in modern medicine and created this false impression on the public for his medical practice”.

“This act on the part of Dr. Mahesh Navadia constitutes serious misconduct as per Explanation (c) to Section 22(1) of the Gujarat Medical Council Act read with the Medical Council of India (Professional Conduct, Etiquette and Ethics) Rules, 2002.” Accessed by Indian Express said the order.

Dr. Nadia has registered MBBS from Ningxia Medical University, China. The General Assembly of the GMC approved the proposal to suspend his registration with effect from January 29, 2025 to July 28, 2025.

Further, the GMC has recommended the Gujarat Council of Homeopathic System of Medicine to take appropriate action against homeopathic doctor Ghanshyam Sughia (Patel).

The GMC has also informed the Surat Municipal Commissioner to take appropriate action for appointing doctors without BHMS (Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery) or Allopathic qualified doctors to treat patients at Maruti Multispeciality Hospital.
