About 150 Days of Leave: West Bengal Govt Announces 2025 Leave List, Extended Leave to Employees on Durga, Kali Puja | Kolkata News

The West Bengal state government has announced a list of holidays for its employees in 2025, with around 150 days marked as holidays and vacations, including 10 days each for Durga Puja and Kali Puja. On Friday, the Finance Department announced the holiday schedule.

Extensive Durga and Kali Puja breaks

State government employees will get 12 days off on Durga Puja and Kojagari Lakshmi Puja. The break begins on Friday, September 26, with holidays granted for Chaturthi and Panchami (Saturday, September 27). September 28 is Sunday, while Saptami, Ashtami, Navami and Dashami (all public holidays) will be celebrated on September 29, 30, October 1 and October 2 respectively. Gandhi Jayanti is also celebrated on October 2.

Additional holidays are set aside for October 3 and 4, while October 5 is a Sunday. The holiday period will continue with Lakshmi Puja on October 6 and an additional holiday on October 7 bringing the total Durga Puja holiday period to 12 days.

After returning to work from October 8th to 17th, the employees will get 11 days leave on Kali Puja, Bhatri Dwiya and Chhath Puja. The Kali Puja holiday begins on October 18, which is a Saturday, although the main festival takes place on October 20 (Monday).

Additional holidays have been announced for Kali Puja on October 21 and 22, Bhatri Dwitiya on October 23 and one more day on October 24. Holidays for Chhath Puja have been completed on the weekend of October 25 and 26. 28, resulting in an uninterrupted extension of 11 days from October 18 to October 28.

However, the liberal holiday calendar is slightly curtailed, as seven holidays in 2025 fall on Sundays.
