Villagers have killed a leopard by setting a trap in Metlapalli, Andhra Pradesh. Case registration

On Thursday (December 19, 2024), a leopard died after being caught in a trap in Metlapalli village of Gannavaram mandal in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh.

“The male leopard was caught in a trap set by some villagers for boars,” said Shanti Priya Pandey, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests.

“After seeing the dead leopard, the villagers informed the forest and police. The culprits will be prosecuted under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972,” said Ms. Shanti Priya.

speaking with HinduRajahmundry Conservator of Forests (CF), BNN Murthy said that the viscera samples of the animals will be collected and all procedures will be followed under the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA).

“A veterinary doctor will conduct the post-mortem and the procedure will be videographed and photographs will be taken to ascertain the cause of death,” Mr Murthy said.

“A case has been registered and investigation is on,” the CF said. Krishna District Police has reached the spot.
