RG Kar rape and murder victim’s parents say they have no faith in CBI-led probe, move HC for fresh probe | Kolkata News

The parents of the RG Kar rape and murder victim have moved the Calcutta High Court demanding a fresh probe into their daughter’s murder.

In the court, their lawyer said that the parents have no faith in the current investigation led by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). They appealed to the court to “soon” order a fresh investigation saying that “all evidence has been lost in the name of this investigation” and many aspects of the case are “not being investigated”.

A single bench of Justice Tirthankar Ghosh asked the CBI to submit the report and all relevant documents by December 24. However, the court said that the ongoing case cannot be stopped in this case.

The court said that the investigation is being conducted under the supervision of the Supreme Court, but if there is dissatisfaction on any part of the family, the High Court can also monitor it.

On Monday, the court will decide whether to ask for a report from the investigating agency every 15 days regarding the progress of the case.

The CBI lawyer said that so far eight status reports have been submitted to the court about the progress of the case. The court asked the CBI counsel to seek further instructions from the agency as to what they should do.

Day-to-day hearings in the case have begun in the lower court and statements are being recorded.

Sandeep Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, and Abhijit Mondal, the then Tala police station officer, were granted bail in the case by a Kolkata court on December 14 after the CBI failed to file a charge sheet. Page within 90 days.

On September 14, the CBI arrested them for allegedly tampering with evidence in the case and trying to “cover up” the incident.

Three days after Sanjay Roy, a civilian volunteer working for the Kolkata Police, was arrested for the August 9 crime, the Calcutta High Court handed over the investigation to the CBI, saying the Kolkata Police’s investigation did not inspire confidence.

Junior doctors in West Bengal have started a 42-day strike demanding a thorough investigation into the incident and security in hospitals. The doctor’s rape and murder trial began in a Kolkata court on November 11, three months after the body was found at the government-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Additional District and Sessions Judge Anirban Das was on camera.
