Nizamabad: On Wednesday, water was released from Sriramsagar project for Rabi crops under Aykut area. Water was released simultaneously in the Kakatiya main canal, Saraswati and Lakshmi canals. There was a large participation of farmers in the program.
Before releasing the water, SRSP Superintendent Engineer Srinivasa Rao Gupta offered prayers and offered flowers in the main canal. Telangana State Seed Development Corporation President Sunketa Anvesh Reddy released water for the Lakshmi Canal which caters to the irrigation needs of farmers in Nizamabad district.
Nirmal MLA Aletti Maheshwar Reddy and farmers released Saraswati canal water for Nirmal district. Between Sriramsagar Project and Lower Manair Dam (LMD) officials released water in canals for crop cultivation. Under the Mission Bhagirath scheme, water will be released in a phased manner till April, 2025 for rabi crops including drinking water requirement.
In Sriramsagar project, the water level was 1,090.90 feet on Wednesday, while its full capacity was 1,091.00 feet, while on the same day last year it was 1,087.80 feet with storage of 69.190 TMC. At present 80.53 TMC of water is stored while the full storage capacity is 80.5 TMC. Initially, 3000 cusecs of water was released in the Kakatiya main canal, which will be gradually increased.
Farmers of Nizamabad, Nirmal, Jagatial, Karimnagar and Peddapally districts will benefit after the release of water from Sriramsagar project. Interestingly, SRSP has received 282.317 TMC of water since June 1, 2024, while 209.615 TMC of water has been released into Godavari river as flood.
