The police gave an emotional farewell to the dog Rita who died here. A dog belonging to the Kalaburgi District Police Dog Squad was an important part of many operations and criminal investigations.
Superintendent of Police Aduru Srinivasalu paid his last respects to the most reliable dog and expressed that Rita’s demise had a deep impact on the police force, especially the canine unit, and many officers were affected by the loss.
Rita, a German Shepherd, was born on June 8, 2014. It was trained for eight months at the City Armed Reserve Training Center in Adugodi, Bangalore. Rita played an important role in many important cases.
In the past 11 years, dogs were involved in the investigation of 600 incidents in the district and 300 in the city limits. It successfully solved 80 cases.
Rita was part of the investigation in the PoCSO Act case in Aland taluk in 2022. A dog helped find a missing woman in Station Bazar police limits in 2023.
Rita bagged first position for best police duty and all-rounder at North-East Karnataka level for three years in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
In 2016 and 2018, he was second in the state level police duty and was selected for the national level.
