βThe members will discuss various issues plaguing the country. It will also chart the future course of protests against the insults of Dr Ambedkar by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other leaders,” he added. The CWC meeting will be held on December 26 at Veer Soudha.
He said books about the 1924 session in Kannada and English would be released on Thursday. Statue of Gandhi
“Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi will unveil the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Suvarna Soudha on December 27. The Chief Minister will preside over the event, accompanied by Legislative Assembly Speaker UT Khader and Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti,” he said. Party lines have been invited for the event.
Rejecting BJP MP Jagdish Shettar’s allegation that it was a “Congress function”, he said, “This is not a party programme. It is a national programme. It is a concern of every Indian.”
On Mr. Shettar’s complaint that the state government was not organizing the centenary festival in collaboration with the Centre, Mr. Shivakumar said: βWe are doing it as part of our programme. If it appreciates Gandhiji’s contribution to nation building, let the central government organize its own program.
Earlier in the day, Mr. Shettar had called it a “waste of public money on a party programme”.
