Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday said the government is committed to raising the height of the Almatti dam to 524.26 meters from the current 519.6 meters to help complete the third phase of the Upper Krishna Project (UKP).

Participating in a meeting of farmers, farmer leaders and elected public representatives of Krishna basin district in Belagavi, the Chief Minister said that the project will be completed in phases.

He said that 133,867 acres of land should be acquired for the project, including land subject to flooding and land for rehabilitation and construction of canals. Of that, only 28,967 acres have been acquired so far.

Pointing out that the previous government had decided to acquire the necessary land in two phases in 2022, the Chief Minister said that now his government has decided to complete the process in one phase by prioritizing land acquisition.

He said that the government is committed to providing a fair price to those who have lost their land by taking into account various aspects such as market price, guide price and criteria related to land acquisition.

Stating that 20,000 cases related to land acquisition are pending in the court, he emphasized that the dispute should be resolved through consensus.
