Two passengers, a man and a child, remain missing for days after the fatal collision

Thirteen people, including one navy and two contract navy personnel, were killed when a navy ship collided with the passenger ferry ‘Neel Kamal’ which was carrying more than 100 passengers from the Gateway of India to Elephanta Island.

Two passengers, a man and a child, are still missing a day after a navy ship carrying out engine tests crashed into their boat off the coast of Mumbai, police said on Thursday. He said that out of 113 people on board both ships, 13 people died and 98 people including two injured people were rescued. According to police, 43-year-old Hansraj Bhati and seven-year-old Johan Mohammad Nisar Ahmed Pathan are missing.

They said that the search operation is continuing with the help of Navy and Coast Guard. Thirteen people, including one Navy and two naval personnel working under contract, collided with the passenger ferry ‘Neel Kamal’ which was carrying more than 100 passengers from the Gateway of India to Elephanta Island on Wednesday afternoon.

Survivors picked up by naval and civil craft in the area have been shifted to nearby jetties and hospitals. 8 ships of the Indian Navy have been deployed in the area where the boat accident occurred.

The Chief Minister announced a relief of Rs 5 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to the families of those who lost their lives. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh posted on X, “Deeply saddened by the loss of precious lives in the collision between a passenger boat and an Indian Navy ship in Mumbai Harbour. The injured personnel including sailors and civilians of both ships are receiving urgent medical care.”


“My deepest condolences to the bereaved family. Extensive search and rescue efforts are underway by the Indian Navy and Coast Guard, deploying multiple assets, to locate the missing persons,” Singh added.
