Experts have backed Bumrah’s bowling action amid debate

New Delhi: Bumrah’s match performance in Perth led some pundits to question the validity of his delivery, which appeared to be elbow-bowled.

However, experts and cricket fans from all over the world have come in support of Bumrah.

Australian great and former Indian coach Greg Chappell was quick to jump to Bumrah’s defence, describing the debate as “nonsense” and calling Bumrah’s actions “obviously clean”.

Former Pakistan player Rashid Latif also came out in support of Bumrah and said that his actions will never be illegal. Latif said Bumrah’s bowling action, despite a slight elbow hypertension, was within ICC standards.

The former player asked fans not to spread any false information on the matter.

Meanwhile, a video of a child bowling with an almost identical bowling action of Bumrah is going viral on social media. A user on X posted a video asking India’s Tej spearhead to check the kid’s performance after he gets time, he went to seek the help of Bumrah’s wife Sanjana Ganesan to ensure that Jasprit watched the video after the Gabba Test.

Bumrah has had his share of struggles and returned to the Indian team only last year after a serious back injury kept him out of action in 2022 and 2023.

With his “slingshot” delivery and ability to unsettle the world’s best batsmen, India’s Jasprit Bumrah is regarded as one of cricket’s greatest fast bowlers.

The 31-year-old has denied any career-threatening problems and on Wednesday overtook Kapil Dev to become India’s leading Test wicket-taker in Australia.

Bumrah, India’s player of the series so far, reached 53 runs in Australia by taking 9 wickets in the third Test in Brisbane, surpassing Dev’s previous record of 51 runs.

He was player of the match in India’s 295-run win in Perth before the hosts leveled the series in Adelaide.

He has been the leading bowler from both sides with 21 wickets at an almost unbelievable average of 10.90 in the series so far. Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins are the last best players with 14 wickets each.

Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting said about Bumrah, ‘I think he is definitely the best fast bowler in India.

Furthermore, Bumrah’s contribution was instrumental in India’s T20 World Cup win in Barbados, where he was instrumental in stopping South Africa from winning the final by scoring 30 runs off the last 30 balls, a performance captain Rohit Sharma called a “masterclass”.

According to many experts, the seeds of his greatness were planted in his Indian Premier League (IPL) team Mumbai Indians, where he has been playing for over a decade.
