After a brief sunny spell, Pune may experience another spell of cold weather as northerly winds are expected to return. Pune may ring in single-digit night temperatures in the new year as clear skies will help cool things down, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
Anupam Kashyapi, former chief, weather forecast, IMD, said single-digit temperatures are expected to return by the end of this week. “Thunderstorm and thundershowers are likely at some places over Pune and other parts of the state. This is mainly due to adverse wind interaction from December 26. Skies are likely to clear from December 29,” Kashyapi said.
Kashyapi said that northerly cold winds from the western Himalayas are likely to settle and enter Maharashtra from December 30, which will cause a significant drop in night temperatures.
Currently, Pune city and its surrounding areas are reporting a minimum temperature of around 16 degrees Celsius, with day temperatures around 26 to 27 degrees Celsius. In some parts of the city and district, the IMD has predicted that there is a chance of rain in some places while there is a chance of rain.
So far, Pune city and district has been a mixed bag for winters reporting single-digit temperatures in the last week of November and the second week of December. Parts of the district like NDA reported temperatures as low as 6 degrees Celsius which could be the lowest recorded in the district for this season.
Earlier in December, the IMD said it will be warmer than normal with above normal minimum temperatures.
