Union Home Minister and Cooperatives Minister Amit Shah inaugurated 10,000 newly established Multipurpose Primary Agriculture Credit Institutions (MPACS) along with dairy and fisheries cooperatives.
Addressing the gathering, Shah said, “We have set a target of establishing 2 lakh Primary Agricultural Credit Institutions (PACs) in five years. It will not take 5 years, before that we will establish 2 lakh PACs.” We have installed 10,000 PACS in the last three months.”
Sharing the details, Shah said NABARD will install 22,750 PACS in the first phase and 47,250 in the second.
Similarly, the National Dairy Development Board will empower 46,500 and establish 56,500 new institutions and the National Fisheries Development Board will empower 5,500 and establish 6,000 new fisheries cooperatives.
Additionally, state cooperative departments will contribute by setting up 25,000 PACS, he said.
Shah said that so far 11,695 new primary cooperative societies have been registered under the new model regulation, which is an important milestone.
He stressed that once the target of 2 lakh PACS is achieved, it will greatly facilitate the seamless integration of farmers’ produce into the world market through strong forward and backward linkages.
Most of the new PACS have been set up in Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.
On the occasion, Shah also distributed RuPay Kisan Credit Cards and Micro-ATMs to 10 cooperative societies as a significant step towards empowering farmers.
He said that as part of the ongoing campaign, micro ATMs will soon be installed in every primary dairy.
Addressing the gathering, Union Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Minister Rajeev Ranjan Singh praised the initiatives taken by Shah in the cooperative sector.
“Cooperatives Minister Amit Shah has worked to free the cooperative sector from the clutches of the alleged mafia and bring it to the common people,” said Singh.
