Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday asked the administration to focus on “ease of life” and said good governance in the state is proved when citizens get benefits of services without delay.
Speaking at the launch of the District Governance Index, 2024 report, Fadnavis said, “The development of the state is based on the ease of life. So the government is always working to improve it. The good governance of the state is envisioned if the citizens get the facility of government services without delay. And to take the economy of the state to one trillion mark. It’s good governance that matters.”
Emphasizing that good governance should be transparent, efficient and people-centric, the Chief Minister said, ‘Ultimately, it is not how many projects we should bring but how we govern that is important for the government.
The index has been prepared by analyzing 10 development areas, 161 indicators and more than 300 statistics. “DGGI is not just for ranking but for improvement. The gap between the toppers and the bottom seems to be closing, which is a good sign,” he said.
According to DGGI, Amravati, Washim, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Latur and Parbhani are the top five districts in agriculture and allied sectors. Mumbai city, Raigad, Pune, Palghar, Thane top in commerce and industry; Human Resource Development Nashik, Gondia, Pune, Yavatmal, Satara; Sindhudurg, Mumbai suburbs, Palghar, Beed, Ratnagiri in public health; Latur, Nashik, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Hingoli in infrastructure development, while Gondia, Amravati, Nashik, Dhule and Nagpur are top in social development.
Mumbai suburbs, Mumbai city, Raigad, Jalgaon and Bhandara topped fiscal discipline; Judiciary and Security in Mumbai Suburbs, Mumbai City, Nagpur, Gadchiroli and Raigad; Sangli, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Solapur, Mumbai city and Mumbai suburbs in the environment; And Nashik, Washim, Yavatmal, Buldhana and Amravati are tops in people-centric administration.
