On Wednesday (December 25, 2024), four people, including a child, died and more than 24 people were injured when a bus fell into a pothole near Bhimtal city in Uttarakhand.
According to officials, At first glance The Uttarakhand Roadways bus, which was going from Almora to Haldwani, apparently lost control and plunged into a 1,500-feet deep ravine. About 30 passengers were thrown from the bus and some were trapped inside.
Immediately after the accident, a team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) reached the spot and started rescue operations. The injured were taken out of the pit with the help of a rope and taken to Bhimtal Community Hospital. The critically injured were taken to Sushila Tiwari Medical College in Haldwani.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami took stock of the situation over phone and directed officials to provide all possible assistance to the injured. He also asked to send an expert team of doctors from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to the spot for medical assistance.
βThe news of the death of four persons in the unfortunate bus accident near Bhimtal is heartbreaking. I pray to God to give the bereaved family strength to bear the grief,’ he said.
