The month of October 2021 was the toughest for superstar Shah Rukh Khan after his son Aryan Khan was detained as part of an investigation into an alleged international drug racket. The star kid spent around 25 days in the Mumbai Central Jail and was denied bail four times until he was granted one on October 28, 2021. In May, 2022, he was acquitted of all charges. While Shahrukh and Aryan were constantly making headlines, the other person in the limelight was Sameer Wankhede. At the time of the investigation, he was the zonal director of the Narcotics Control Bureau.

In a conversation with Gaurav Thakur, Sameer responded to the allegation of targeting only celebrities. He said, “I personally and professionally don’t believe in the word celebrity. People see me as a person who only catches so-called celebrities, but they are not the only ones I handle. There are 3400 other cases that I have dealt with, which are in this limelight. They don’t come because those people don’t have the face value or the attraction to make headlines. I just did my duty. It’s not my fault if people write headlines around certain people.”

Speaking about the Shah Rukh Khan case, Sameer disagreed that it was the elephant in the room. He said, “I don’t agree that it’s the ‘elephant in the room,’ rather I think of it as the smallest matter of my career — a microbe in the room. I don’t want to give too much importance to it, or waste my time on it. The issue is currently It’s in court and I don’t want to comment on it. I’m not afraid of anything, nor am I hiding anything. The only reason I’m not allowed to talk about it is that I’ve given an affidavit in court And there is a lot to talk about, but there is a code of conduct, which is why I cannot discuss it.
After the incident in 2021 and a clean chit to Aryan Khan in 2022, Shah Rukh Khan starred in two big films Pathan and Jawan in 2023. A recent dialogue has become a headline in itself.
