Amravati: A six-year-old boy from Venkatapuram village in Maripadu mandal of Nellore district is suspected to be infected with the Zika virus. Concern has increased in the local community as the child’s health worsens.
After the news came, there was fear and panic in the villagers. The boy was initially treated at a private hospital in Nellore, but after a definite diagnosis could not be made, he was shifted to Chennai for further treatment. Despite ongoing treatment, blood samples have been sent to a reputed laboratory in Pune for conclusive diagnosis. Officials are awaiting results.
A medical camp has been set up in Venkatapuram village as a precautionary measure after a suspected case of Zika virus. Villagers are educated about the virus and provided with necessary medicines and treatments. Officials of the Medical and Health Department have said that they are taking all necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the Zika virus.
