One of the highlights of the 87th Akhila Bharat Kannada Sahitya Sammelan, which began in Mandya on Friday, was the blind poets’ session.
This is the first time that a platform has been provided to visually impaired poets to share their literary skills with the audience at the conference. The meeting was chaired by Shivraj Shastri Herur.
Poet Mudigere Ramesh Kumar said that his life is a challenge in itself and poetry is another challenge. “In a challenging life we are engaged in writing. Writing is more important than living. Kannada Sahitya Parishad has taken important steps to organize Kavi Sammelan for the visually impaired. In the future, the actions of the blind will be a matter of serious discussion,’ he said.
He recalled the contribution of others and said that the role of writer Baragur Ramachandrappa was important in bringing together blind poets earlier. Poet Late Siddalingaih published his works in Braille. H. Vishwanath started a grant award for blind writers and poets. Now, council president Mahesh Joshi has ensured a “historic” conference by organizing a session for blind poets.
Bapu Khade, Harish C., Hemanth Kumar, Jayananda Topugolu, Rama Pani Bhat Gopi, Somshekhar Baligar, Shivaswamy Chenakera, TM Totaiya, Krishna Hombala and Anand Indura recited their poems.
