A man working as a clerk for a Gujarat High Court advocate and his brother were injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast at their home in Ahmedabad on Saturday. The police arrested the person who delivered the homemade bomb and said that the incident was due to a personal dispute.
The incident took place at 10.45 am on Saturday. Gaurav Niranjan Gadhvi had given a homemade bomb to Baldev Sukhdia’s house. Police said Baldev and his brother Kirit were injured in the bomb blast. Garhvi tried to escape but the locals caught him and informed the police who reached the spot after receiving the information about the low-intensity explosion.
Garhvi has been taken into custody, Ahmedabad Sector-1 Additional Commissioner of Police Niraj Kumar Badgujar confirmed.
Police said that both Baldev and Kirit suffered minor burns, while Kirit was also injured by the razor blade placed in the bomb. Police suspect that the device may have been detonated remotely but are awaiting confirmation from a forensic science lab team.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Ajit Rajian said that after Baldev told the police that he suspected a person named Rupenkishore Barot, the Crime Investigation Division raided Barot’s house and seized bomb-making materials and three country-made pistols.
“Primarily it appears that Rupen Barot and his wife Hetal got divorced and Barot blamed Baldev for this… Now it seems to be a case of personal vendetta but investigation is on,” Badgujar said.
Meanwhile, the Sabarmati police have questioned Garhvi in whose jurisdiction the incident took place. He allegedly told police he was only hired to deliver equipment. According to the police, he knew what was in the parcel.
A case has been filed against Garhvi and Barot on charges including murder.
