The Pimpri Chinchwad police have convicted a man for allegedly jumping parole under the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Jail officials registered an FIR in this matter at Rawet Police Station on Wednesday.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Santosh Potaghan said that the 26-year-old youth who was arrested and convicted on the charge of sexually abusing a girl in Latur district is the investigating officer of this case. After that, he was kept in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Jail while serving his sentence.
Police said the accused was granted parole for four days on July 18, 2024, to attend a relative’s wedding ceremony under the jurisdiction of Rawet police station in Pimpri Chinchwad. Later, his parole period was extended by four more days, and he was asked to be sent back by July 25. However, he has not returned yet, police said.
The jail administration has registered a case against him under Section 262 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and initiated legal action.
