The Bombay High Court on Thursday directed the state government to ascertain the perception of intimidation by the parents of the deceased accused in the Badlapur sex assault case and decide whether they need protection and said their livelihood should not be disrupted.
The court has also ordered the government to consider whether the parents can be rehabilitated by giving them work or jobs in the government scheme or whether they can be linked with non-governmental organizations for that purpose.
The parents who were present in the court gave this information after the bank sealed their house in Badlapur saying that while they are involved in household work, now no one is ready to give them work and they have not paid the loan. They are currently living by begging on the pavements by using it for the marriage of their other son.
A bench of Justices Revathi Mohite-Dere and Prithviraj K Chavan is hearing a Public Interest Litigation initiated by it addressing the news of sexual harassment. Two four-year-old children By sanitation workers at a school in Badlapur, Thane, in August.
A hearing was held in the High Court on whether the parents of the accused sanitation workers who were killed in the police encounter should be given police protection.
The state lawyer said that the parents of the deceased refused to provide police protection, but his lawyer denied it.
When we asked the parents about the lack of security, they said that if the police station that gives alms to begs on the streets is around us on the 7th, it will be a problem for us to live.
The judges then asked the state government to examine whether the family was under threat within a week and take an appropriate decision. The high court will next hear the petition on January 13
