The case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, in connection with the clashes in Parliament premises, has been handed over to the crime branch, a senior Delhi Police official said on Friday (Dec 20, 2024).
A First Information Report (FIR) was lodged at the Parliament Street police station after Vadodara BJP MP Hemang Joshi filed a complaint accusing the Congress leader of “physical assault and provocation” on Thursday during a fight in which two BJP MPs, Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput, were injured.

The police booked Mr. Gandhi under sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 117 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 125 (endangering life or personal safety of others), 131 (use of criminal force), 351 (criminal intimidation) and is 3(5) of the Indian Judicial Code (BNS) (general intent).
A senior official said Hindu The police have prepared to ask for the CCTV footage of the Parliament premises. The official added that the police have sent a communication to the injured MPs, Mr. Sarangi and Mr. Rajput and will take their statements after they return from the hospital. He said that the police have also collected their medical reports.
However, the police are yet to “send a communication to Mr. Gandhi for questioning”, the official added.
Congress had also filed a complaint on this issue. A delegation of Congress MPs including Digvijay Singh, Mukul Wasnik, Rajeev Shukla and Pramod Tiwari lodged the complaint after visiting the station in person, the official added.
