Chief Minister of Manipur N. Biren Singh said on Monday (Dec 23, 2024) that recruited police cadets from the Meitei and Kuki communities would be sent together as a “team” in an effort to bring peace back to communal violence. – Hit the state. About 2,000 recruits of the Manipur Police passed out from the Lachit Borphukan Police Academy here on Monday, strengthening the force of the state.
Governor of Assam and Manipur Laxman Prasad Acharya and Shri Singh attended the function as chief guests.
‘Due to the current situation, there has been communal division. This was not the case in the past and will not be allowed to happen in the future,” the Chief Minister told reporters after the event. The newly trained employees should do all the work together as if they were trained here, he said.
“We must start working together to bring peace to the state. Their posting will be together. We will not break the team. We will try to restore the unity of earlier Manipur,” said Mr. Singh.
Among the 1,946 recruits from the academy here in the Manipur Police, the caste distribution is varied with 62% Meiti, 12% Kuki and the remaining 26% Naga and other tribes. Asked about the ongoing law and order situation in Manipur, Mr. Singh said it was complicated and would take time to normalize.
‘Peace Back’
“All of us have seen that peace has returned to the state,” he said.
On the recent arrest of Bangladeshi nationals who entered India illegally in Manipur, the Chief Minister said it was not a state-only issue. “Bangladeshi nationals who entered India illegally have been arrested in Manipur, Assam, Tripura, Arunachal. As this is an issue in our region, we all have to solve it together,” Mr. Singh said.
