Inspired by Andhra Pradesh, the Karnataka Government’s School Education Department and General Education Wing have developed a Kannada-English bilingual dictionary to enhance language proficiency among school children in that state.
The dictionary was released on Wednesday (December 25) at the conference hall of the Department of State Educational Research and Training (DSERT) in Bengaluru.
Andhra Pradesh Comprehensive Education State Project Director B. Srinivasa Rao joined the function from his office in Vijayawada.
The Karnataka branch of Samagra Shiksha has designed two separate sets of dictionaries for students of classes 1-5 and classes 6-8 to enable students to learn, construct sentences and read effectively in both Kannada, focusing on complex words, grammar and pronunciation. and English.
DSERT director Gopalakrishna said a delegation from Karnataka had visited schools in Andhra Pradesh to study their bilingual textbooks and dictionaries. Inspired by AP’s model, Karnataka also published a bilingual dictionary on similar lines.
He said that more than 50 subject experts and teachers have contributed to the creation of the dictionary with the technical support of Save the Children organization.
Srinivasa Rao shared the idea that went into the publication of bilingual textbooks and dictionaries in Andhra Pradesh. He said AP focuses on foundational learning programs, STEM-based education and learning improvement strategies.
Radha and Vijayamma, representatives of DSERT, Avinash Singh, Director of Save the Children and Malladi Srinagesh, Education Advisor for South India and others were present.
