Kuala Lumpur: Opener G Trisha scored a strong half-century before the left-arm troika of Ayushi Shukla, Sonam Yadav and Parunika Sisodia as India defeated the Bangladesh batsmen by 41 runs to become champions of the inaugural Women’s T20 U19 Asia Cup on Sunday.
On a spongy pitch, Trisha’s 52 off 47 balls (5×4, 2×6) took India to 117 for 7, but the Indian spinners dismissed Bangladesh for 76 in 18.3 overs. The biggest partnership in the Indian innings, in fact in the game itself, was the 41-run partnership between Trisha and her captain Nikki Prasad for the fourth wicket. The Indian batsman struggled with fast bowler Farzana Ismin who took four wickets. Despite that, India were restricted to an even total, and Bangladesh looked well on their way to victory after reaching 44 for 2 in the seventh over. However, after Ayushi (3/17), Sonam (2/13) and Parunika (2/12) took the lead from that point, Bangladesh lost the remaining eight wickets for just 32 runs. Brief scores: India: 117/7 in 20 overs (G Trisha 52; Farzana Ismin 4/32) beat Bangladesh: 76 all out in 18.3 overs (Zuaria Firdous 22; Ayushi Shukla 3/17, Sonam Yadav 2/13, Parunika Sisodia 2 /12).
