Hyderabad:Residents of Rajendranagar and Shivarampalli have said that they have been getting polluted water supply for four months. What started as a minor issue has now turned into a serious crisis without any solution.
Local Iqbal Khan said that this problem, which started a year ago, was managed initially. “Earlier, the water would turn black-brown in the first few minutes but it would clear. For the past four months, the water quality has deteriorated to the point of being untouchable,” he said.
Another resident, Mohammad Sajjad Ali, expressed his disappointment at the lack of action by the authorities. “We have filed many complaints and authorities are aware of the problem, but nothing has been done,” he said.
Mustafa said that for almost half an hour every evening, particles were mixed in the dirty water and it smelled bad. “What am I going to do with this water,” he asked.
Shanti Kumari, a mother of two, highlighted the daily struggle. “Water is released only once an hour, it has been the same for the last four months. Even though a supervisor came three months ago, no action was taken. We fear for the health of our children. How is this justified? We have to fight for something basic like clean drinking water,” she asked.
Local residents have informed that due to damaged pipes, mixing of sewage and drinking water can cause problems in the water supply system. “We were told that the sewage pipe is mixed with the drinking water line, but nothing has been done,” added a resident. The community has demanded an immediate solution to the problem.
Sources said that this pollution has increased due to the connection of sewerage and water supply lines due to narrow pipelines and illegal water connections.
HMWS&SB officials claimed that the ongoing construction of stormwater drains by GHMC had damaged pipelines at 4-5 places, allowing sewage water to seep into drinking water lines.
Officials have assured that corrective measures have been taken to restore clean drinking water in the area and the problem will be solved soon.
