Five people died in two separate accidents in Mandia district on Saturday.

Three engineering students from Bengaluru died on the spot when they collided with a truck near Nagegowdana Doddi in Malavalli taluk of Mandya district on Saturday.

Pranav, Akash and Adarsh, students of Bangalore Institute of Technology, were among the dead, while Prithvi, another student, was seriously injured and her condition is said to be critical.

Three students died on the spot when a car collided with a truck coming from Kolegal, police said.

The impact of the collision was such that the car was turned into a piece of metal and overturned in an adjacent agricultural field. Due to the accident, the traffic on the highway was blocked for some time.

Malvalli rural municipality police inspector Mahesh, sub-inspector Shravan and staff reached the spot and informed the victim’s family. The body has been kept in Malvalli Hospital and the truck driver has been arrested.

Another accident

Two women died when a truck carrying onions hit a motorcycle near Mahadeshwarpura near Pandavpura in Mandia district. The accident took place near Mahadeswarpura on the Srirangapatna-Jewargi highway.

The deceased have been identified as 34-year-old Shilpashree and 17-year-old Sandhya of the second PU and both belong to Neelanahalli village.

It is said that Sandhya’s mother Shailaja was injured and her condition is critical. According to the police, the accident happened when Sandhya was driving a two-wheeler to the railway station to drop off Shailja and Shilpashree. The truck was coming from Nagamangala.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Murali, Inspector Pramod and other police officers reached the spot. Former Minister CS Puttaraju and MLA Darshan Puttanaiah also visited the hospital where the body of the deceased was shifted and expressed condolences with the family members of the deceased.

Melkot police have registered a case.
