DTH channel dedicated to sign language launched India news

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Friday dedicated PM e-VIDYA channel 31, a DTH channel to Sign Language. “A landmark chapter has been added to the welfare of persons with disabilities in the form of a new Act which expands the ambit of the legal framework. The National Education Policy 2020 has emphasized on the education of children with special needs. Our education system is rapidly becoming inclusive,’ said Pradhan.

Emphasizing the importance of sign language, Pradhan said that its expression can also be seen in cultural activities such as dance and drama. Mentioning acclaimed personalities with various disabilities, from Surdas to Stephen Hawking, Pradhan said that our friends with disabilities have immense potential and the launch of the DTH channel will help unlock that potential.

‘This is an important step in the direction of making our society more inclusive and progressive,’ Pradha urged all stakeholders to make Channel 31 popular by bringing it to the masses.

“Indian Sign Language has the potential to create jobs and set new standards. It should set a benchmark for the world,” the minister said.
