A day after an egg was thrown at Karnataka BJP MLA Munirathana, Bengaluru’s Nandini Layout police on Thursday booked 100 to 150 unidentified people over the incident, alleging that the egg contained acid and caused a burning sensation.
The FIR also said that on December 5, two men posing as lawyers threatened to file a case against her under the Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act if she refused to resign as Rajarajeshwari Nagar MLA.
“In the Lok Sabha elections, you lost to DK Suresh by over a lakh votes, which hurt him. For him to be happy, Kusuma should become Rajarajeshwari Nagar MLA,” the two told Munirathna, according to the FIR. Congress candidate Kusuma had lost to Munirathna in the 2023 assembly elections.

Munirathana was among the MLAs who jumped ship to the BJP in 2019 and clashed with the DK brothers—deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar and former MP DK Suresh—who supported Kusuma in the 2023 elections. Despite their efforts, Munirathna retained his seat.
Two cases have recently been registered against him, due to which a special investigation team has been formed to probe the allegations. The first case alleges caste abuse against a contractor, while the second relates to allegations of sexual harassment against a woman against Munirathna and others. He was arrested in September and granted bail in October.
