People in Delhi woke up to a layer of thick fog on Friday as a cold wave gripped the city. According to the IMD, the minimum temperature in Delhi on Friday dropped to 7 degrees Celsius as fog gripped the city. People from many places including Yamuna market area and New Delhi railway station took shelter in night shelters.
On Friday too, the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) remained in the ‘severe’ category. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the AQI measured at 8 am in the national capital was 434. The air quality index was between the ‘severe’ and ‘severe-plus’ categories in several areas of Delhi. RK Puram recorded an AQI of 453 and 452 in Rohini, 436 in Shadipur and 451 in Vivek Vihar.
An AQI between 0-50 is considered good, 51-100 is satisfactory, 101-200 is moderate, 201-300 is poor, 301-400 is very poor, and 401-500 is severe. Meanwhile, several parts of North India have witnessed a cold wave as the temperature drops.
Additionally, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), cold wave to severe cold wave conditions will persist over most parts of North India.

Earlier on Thursday, visibility was low in the capital due to cold wave. Visibility in Delhi was recorded at 250 meters at 8 am with the minimum temperature dropping to 7.4 degrees Celsius.
