Police said on Tuesday (December 24, 2024) that several Congress members were arrested after they staged a foot march to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bishnu Dev Sai’s house, accusing Union Minister Amit Shah of insulting Dr BR Ambedkar. ).

Members of the opposition Congress and its youth organization started a protest rally from Raipur’s Gandhi Maidan on Monday afternoon.

While they were on their way to the Chief Minister’s residence, several protesters were detained and released later in the evening, a police official said.

Opposition party members also tried to ‘besiege’ CM Sai’s residence to register their protest against Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks about BR Ambedkar in Parliament recently.

Police deployment

Heavy police security was deployed near the Chief Minister’s house to stop the agitating Congress workers. A party worker said that the police also used water fountains to disperse the protesters.

Udaya Bhanu Chib, national president of the Indian Youth Congress, who led the protest, told reporters, “The way Amit Shah mocked Babasaheb Ambedkar in Parliament, we demand that he resign. He should apologize to the people of the entire country.” .”

Chhattisgarh Congress chief Deepak Baij and State Youth Congress chief Akash Sharma also participated in the walk.

Congress leaders also raised issues of law and order, drug peddling, high electricity tariff and unemployment in the state.

Earlier, former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Baiz addressed the gathering of party workers in front of Raipur Metropolitan Municipality.

Referring to last month’s incident of firing on a person outside Raipur Central Jail, Mr. Baiz expressed concern over the state’s law and order situation.

Further targeting the BJP government, Mr. Baiz claimed that women are not safe in the state.
