Members of the Nagapattinam District Development Committee, supported by various organizations and residents, observed a fast near the new bus stand in the city on Sunday. They are protesting against shifting the proposed bus stand to the outer area and demanded infrastructure development.

Members of farmers’ associations, consumer rights groups, shopkeepers, transport operators, self-help groups, students, and members of social service organizations participated in the demonstration led by committee chairman NP Bhaskaran.

Instead of moving it to Sellur, the bus park in Aurithidal area should be expanded to its current location, full medical services should be resumed in the government hospital near the bus park, and an IT park should be established on the government land near the district revenue office. Traders at New Bus Stand closed their shops in solidarity with the fast.
