The 100th birth anniversary of Chandigarh Rock Garden creator Nek Chand is all set to be celebrated with a week-long celebration.
UT has decided to organize a week-long grand function at Rock Garden, Sector 1.
Officials have said that the festival, which will be celebrated from December 9, will last until December 15.
The Rock Garden is spread over 40 acres. The garden, which has become a center of attraction for foreign tourists as well, is visited by 5,000 tourists daily, including domestic ones. The garden was created by a road inspector, Nek Chand, and was officially opened to the public on January 24, 1976. Nek Chand passed away in June 2015.
Created from urban and industrial waste, the garden is one of the top tourist attractions in Chandigarh. The garden features sculptures that include dancers, musicians, birds and animals as well as several artificial waterfalls.
With footfall, it 1 lakh daily income.
A senior officer of the administration, who is supervising the program, informed that various performances from all over the country will be performed at different times in the Rock Garden.
To encourage the use of millet in the daily diet, the Rock Garden Society is also considering holding a millet festival in the garden.

Performances and programs are being organized in collaboration with Chandigarh Tourism Department and North Zone Cultural Center (NZCC).
The seven-day long festival will feature musical performances and performances by artists like Bajigar, Nachar, Bean-Jogi, Behrupia, Nagada.
In the evening, there will be various musical performances for the general public at Rock Garden Phase-III by the Department of Tourism, Chandigarh Administration.
Sufi singer Kanwar Grewal is coming to entertain the audience on December 12.
The festival will conclude on December 15 (Sunday) with a musical chairs event for the general public at Rock Garden Phase-III.
