APEMCL will expand into biomedical, battery and e-waste monitoring

Tirupati: To address the evolving waste management challenges, the Andhra Pradesh Environment Management Corporation Limited (APEMCL) will expand its scope and begin monitoring and control of biomedical, battery and e-waste generation.

APEMCL president Polamreddy Dinesh Reddy disclosed this while inspecting the coastal waste management plant in Nellore district on Wednesday. He and Venkatagiri MLA Kurugondala Ramakrishna reviewed the operations of the plant and appreciated its role in environmental protection.

Speaking to the media, Dinesh Reddy said that in the last six years, APEMCL has crossed the milestone of managing 6,09,624 metric tonnes of hazardous waste, 19,45,023 kilo liters of solid waste and 85,22,171 tonnes of fly ash. “This success reflects the dedication of the state government to balance industrial growth with environmental sustainability,” he said.

The corporation chairman said that APEMCL expanding its scope to monitor biomedical, battery and e-waste is a step towards formulating a comprehensive waste management policy for Andhra Pradesh.

He praised Chief Minister Nar Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, who also hold the Environment portfolio, for their vision to create innovative and effective strategies to manage various types of waste.

“Protecting the environment is a difficult task. But with APEMCL’s technological advancement and systematic approach, we are making significant progress,” said Dinesh Reddy.

He pointed out that the Coastal Waste Management Plant established by the previous Telugu Desam government is an important hub for industrial waste collection, treatment and disposal. He highlighted the effectiveness of the Treatment, Storage and Disposal Facility (TSDF) units in Nellore and Visakhapatnam districts, which have advanced procedures to ensure that hazardous materials do not pollute ground water or harm the environment. uses

The Corporation Chairman highlighted the technological innovations brought by APEMCL, including the online waste exchange portal. The portal has an online manifest system and vehicle tracking system for transparent and safe management of industrial waste.

“Through these technological developments, we have streamlined the management of hazardous waste in the state and reduced the risk of improper disposal,” he added.
