Belagavi: Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC president DK Sivakumar today said that Anwar Manippadi, former chairman of the State Minorities Commission, had taken a U-turn due to political pressure.
Speaking to the media at the Suvarna Soudh complex, Shivakumar raised questions about Manippadi’s recent change in stance.
Asked about Manippadi withdrawing his earlier statements, Shivakumar said, “I have seen videos of his statements on media and social platforms. Many of his claims have come directly from his own mouth. He said he has written to the Prime Minister and Home Minister on the matter. Regarding why there is confusion on this issue, Shivakumar said, ‘You (media) are creating confusion. You published his statement. You reported what Anwar said and the Chief Minister also quoted him in a tweet. He (Manippadi) has been made to give contradictory statements to cover up the case. What he said in the beginning is true. If necessary, you can verify his voice yourself. “
When asked about the Chief Minister’s statement that the CBI should be handed over the investigation, he said, “All the facts are before us. Let the CBI write a letter to the state government seeking permission to investigate, then we will think. We will not hand it over to the CBI. BJP knows this and is therefore seeking a CBI probe.
Responding to Anwar Manippadi’s claim that Congress leaders offered him, Shivakumar said, “He should have mentioned this earlier. Why didn’t he name the offerers then? What is the use of saying it now? You are in a position of authority. What you say really matters.”
