The parents of a doctor who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Hospital on Thursday (December 19, 2024) demanded a fresh probe into the crime in the Kolkata High Court.
Expressing his disbelief in the ongoing investigation of the incident which led to a loud protest, he demanded directions for a new investigation into the rape and murder of his daughter.
Justice Tirthankar Ghosh asked his counsel to add the CBI, which is investigating the case, as a party to the petition and mention the case again in court on Monday (December 23, 2024).
On August 9, 2024, the dead body of a postgraduate trainee doctor who was on duty was found in the seminar room of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
The Sealdah court had on December 13 granted bail to Sandeep Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, and Abhijit Mandal, in-charge of Tala police station.
They were granted bail because the CBI failed to file a chargesheet against them within the statutory period of 90 days, their lawyers said.
While Mr. Ghosh was accused of tampering with evidence in the case, the police officer was accused of delaying registration of the FIR after the body was found.
The CBI has filed a charge sheet against the main accused Sanjay Roy.
In its chargesheet, the CBI said Roy, who was working as a civilian volunteer with the local police, allegedly committed the crime when he went to sleep in the hospital’s seminar room during a break.
