A senior Maoist from Odisha has surrendered before the Mulugu police

Mulugu SP P Shabarish on Wednesday disclosing details of surrendered Maoist, Aluva Swarna

In a significant development, Aluva Swarn alias Swarnakka (50), a senior member of the banned CPI-Maoist party, surrendered before Superintendent of Police (SP) P Shabarish here on Wednesday. She hails from Poteru village of Kalimela mandal in Malkangiri district of Odisha.

She expressed her desire to live a peaceful life with her family, citing her disillusionment with Maoist ideology and their futility.

According to the police, Swarnakka joined CPN-Maoist in 2000 under the influence of Kalimela area committee commander Ramanna. She served in various capacities, including as a security guard for high-ranking Maoist leaders, and took part in several violent encounters.

In 2006 Swarnakka married Kurasa Sayanna, a Maoist leader from Kongla village in Mulugu district. She was promoted to Area Committee Member in 2008 and worked closely with the Central Committee Members. Her assignments later took her to West Bastar, where she served as the Sandra LOS Commander and, later, as the Chairman of the Jantana Sarkari under the National Park Area Committee.

However, personal losses and deteriorating health led to his despair. The death of her husband in an encounter in 2017 caused significant mental anguish. Since 2019, Swarnakka was working as the Chairperson of the Agriculture Department under the National Park Area Committee, but eventually decided to leave the Maoist movement.

DSP and in-charge OSD Mulugu N. Ravinder, and Assistant Commandant of 39 BN CRPF M. Srinivas was present.
