A man living in a farmhouse in Kathanahalli village of Srirangapatna rural municipality police station was killed by a suspected robber on Saturday by hitting his wife with a single tool.

According to the police, the accused reached the farmhouse around 7 pm with a handheld portable saw used for cutting wood in a bag and knocked on the door.

When Yashodham opened the door, the accused said that he had come to give the chainsaw that he had ordered online. After Yashodham said that he had not given any such order, the accused took out a chainsaw from the bag and opened it and attacked him.

After Yasodhamma, who was injured in the cheek, fell down bleeding profusely, the accused entered the house and attacked 55-year-old Ramesh, who was recovering from paralysis some time ago.

Meanwhile, Ms. Yashodhamma, who quickly recovered from the attack, stormed the house from outside and raised an alarm that soon sent neighbors and other passers-by rushing to her aid.

Although Ramesh died in the attack, the accused Mohammad Ibrahim was caught by the people and beaten up and handed over to the police.

According to the police, the accused, who is an employee of a private company, lost a lot of money due to his addiction to online gambling. He had accumulated huge debts and was under pressure from financiers.

Ms. Yashodhamma is being treated at a hospital in Mysuru, police said.

Mandya Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baladandi reached the farmhouse on Sunday and discussed with the local police officers.
