A local court in Bharuch sent a 35-year-old man to police custody for three days on Wednesday on charges of raping a 70-year-old woman whom he had sexually assaulted earlier.
According to Amod police station, the accused Shailesh Rathod raped the woman on 15th and 22nd of January last when she was alone in a house on the outskirts of Itola village.
Police deputy sub-inspector RB Karmatia said that the accused was taken to the first office against the woman to reconstruct the crime committed on November 22 after being released on bail.
According to the complaint lodged by the victim at the Amod Police Station, the accused has also threatened her with dire consequences if she narrates this matter. Rathod was earlier arrested and jailed for raping the same victim in 2023.
Karmatia said that the Bharuch district police arrested the accused using a drone camera and re-arrested them on Tuesday. ‘We took him to the court for reconstruction of the crime, where we asked for a deadline to investigate the crime against the same victim. The court has given a deadline of three days,’ said Karmatia.
