Two pilgrims and a scooter driver died on the spot in a road accident between a van and a lorry near Gobbur (B) on Solapur-Kalaburgi National Highway 151 in Afzalpur taluk of Kalaburgi district on Wednesday.
The deceased have been identified as 29-year-old Anup Madhav, resident of Station Bazar, Kalaburgi, 54-year-old Vinita Kashyap, resident of Mysuru and 33-year-old scooter driver Basavaraj of Gobbur (B) village.
The pilgrim in the van died on the spot. Other passengers of the van sustained minor injuries.
The two deceased along with other passengers in the van were returning to Kalaburgi from Deval Gangapur village after visiting the famous Dattatreya temple on Wednesday evening.
The accident occurred when the van that was trying to overtake the vehicle lost control and collided with a lorry carrying sugarcane.
A scooter was stuck between two vehicles when they collided. The deceased was riding a third Basavaraj scooter which was involved in a collision between two vehicles. He also breathed his last on the spot. Meanwhile, the drivers of both the vehicles escaped.
