Working on a smart doorbell camera with Apple FaceID

Apple is reportedly working on a new smart doorbell camera equipped with Face ID to unlock doors.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the doorbell camera could be released by the end of next year. The doorbell camera will work just like your iPhone, the door unlocks automatically when you look at the camera. The device will be equipped with Apple’s Secure Enclave chip.

Apple is set to challenge Amazon’s doorbell with its smart doorbell. The smart doorbell will work with existing third-party smart locks that are compatible with HomeKit, and the company may partner with a certain smart lock company to offer the full system on day one, Gurman writes.

Gurman says the camera is also expected to use a “Proxima” wireless chip. The smart doorbell is just one product that Apple plans to bring to the smart home market. The tech giant plans to launch smart home cameras and new smart home displays.
