Crafton, the company behind Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), today unveiled CookieRun India, a new casual 2D running game. Developed in collaboration with DevSisters, it is the gaming giant’s first casual mobile game that caters to all demographics and age groups in India.
Unlike other Crafton games, which usually involve strategy and planning, CookeRun India has easy-to-understand controls with two on-screen buttons that let you control the character in the game.
“We have invested over 170 million in the country, supporting innovative start-ups, fostering talent and building a thriving gaming ecosystem. By expanding into the casual gaming genre, we aim to tap into a wider audience, bringing more people into the wonderful world of gaming”, said Minu Lee, Head of Publishing, Crafton India.
When indianexpress.com asked Lee how CookieRun India differs from existing casual 2D running games like Jetpack Joyride, he said the game’s social element, which lets you compete with your friends on leaderboards with India-centric characters and events. More fun.
“Our commitment to creating games from India, we are excited to launch three or four more new titles in India, offering diverse and engaging experiences tailored to the region. Cookie Run India represents our ambition to revolutionize the casual gaming space, making it fun, inclusive, and offers a game uniquely tailored for Indian players,” Lee added.
What is Kukiran India?
CookieRun India is a 2D running game with two on-screen buttons – jump and slide. Players also have the option to choose between different characters called ‘cookies’ with unique powers and abilities.
As the in-game character moves automatically, players collect coins, power-ups, and lives by jumping or sliding them over obstacles. The gameplay may remind you of JetPack Joyride at first glance, but Krafton’s social competitive element gives it the edge.
At the launch, Crafton said the game will have a total of 20 characters, including two India-specific cookies named ‘Gulab Jamun’ and ‘Kaju Katli’. During the demo, a Crafton representative said that each character could be paired with a pet that would accompany the cookies on their endless run. Like Bullet Echo India, users won’t see any mandatory ads in the game, but Crafton said players can earn additional rewards by watching optional ads.
The company also said that CookeRun India operates on a freemium model and clarified that players who purchase in-game items do not get any competitive advantage. With over 1 million pre-registrations, the game will be available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store on December 11.
