Barcelona coach Hansi Flick said on Friday that the team will fight to the end to win the title, saying that he is not very happy with the current situation the team is facing. Barcelona are scheduled to play Atletico Madrid on December 21 and the Catalans will be looking to avoid a third straight defeat at home.
After a great start to the season by winning 12 of their first 16 games in the tournament, Barcelona have recently stumbled with just 1 win in their last 6 league games, including a defeat to 15th-placed Leganes.
They remain at the top of the table with a total of 38 points, where they are level with Atlético Madrid who are in second place while arch rivals Real Madrid are just 1 point behind, both Madrid teams have played one game each.
“What I can feel in the city and the supporters know what the team is like. We lost five important players. (attacking midfielder) Dani Olmo and (forward) Pau Victor are (new) signings. The team has improved and is focused,” Flick said. .
“We’re not happy with the situation, but we’re going to fight until the end of the season. We want to win the title, but we know it won’t be easy. But we want to win, that’s what we want to do tomorrow,” he added.
Flick also stressed that there will not be much room for error if they are planning to win against Atlético but they are ready for the competition.
“It’s the end of the year. This is a great game. This is one of the best competitors. But today is December 20 and we are first in La Liga and second in the Champions League. We are not bad. We lost some points against Las Palmas (2-1 loss) and Leganes, we have to recover them,” said Flick.
“Tomorrow is another game. We have a young team and we have to fight and improve. We want to achieve great things. But we know it won’t be easy. We have to start fighting from tomorrow. We are playing against a great team,” he added.
