NIRF Initiative to Improve Teaching Quality in AP Medical Colleges

Vijayawada:The AP Health Department has directed the state government medical colleges to participate in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) to improve the quality of teaching in AP and compete with other leading medical colleges in the country.

This is part of the 12 initiatives taken by the health department in the last six months to improve medical services in the state.

In this regard, the Health Department under the leadership of Health Minister Satyakumar Yadav has submitted the performance report of the last six months to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday.

According to the report, the health department has tested 33,58,347 people worldwide for cancer. Among them, 29 thousand 469 women have been sent for further tests and treatment on suspicion of having cancer.

Under the National Child Health Program (RBSK), aimed at screening 70 lakh students for various diseases and disorders, 488 surgeries and other interventions have been carried out.

Work has been initiated to set up three City Diagnostic Centers at Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati.

The department has initiated e-ICU for the benefit of the people living in remote and tribal areas, while the ‘Gundeku Bharosa (STEMI) program has been expanded across the state to include 22 big hospitals, providing critical heart treatment at the golden hour. .

The budget allocation for the AYUSH department has been increased to over ₹ 84 crore, while there are plans to set up a chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear medicine management center at the Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences.

Ten critical care blocks of 75 beds each have been taken up in the state at a cost of ₹ 230 crore. A Metropolitan Surveillance Unit is being set up at Guntur Government Hospital at a cost of Rs 20 crore. Jan Aushadhi outlets will be established in 25 teaching and district hospitals in the first phase.
