UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was shot and killed in midtown Manhattan early Wednesday morning, according to police reports. The New York Times Reported.

Thompson, 50, was on his way to the New York Hilton Hotel in a suit and tie to attend a United Healthcare conference in the hotel’s ballroom when a gunman opened fire from about 20 feet away, hitting Thompson multiple times in the chest. .

He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the NYPD reported.

According to reports, the gunman waited for a short time before Thompson arrived and immediately fled after shooting him.

Details surrounding the incident are unclear, but authorities believe it was a targeted attack. The police said that no one has been arrested so far and the investigation is ongoing.

Thompson, who became the company’s CEO in April 2021, led the healthcare arm of UnitedHealth Group, which is ranked fifth on the Fortune 500 list.
